The story begins with Rani Kashyap (Taapsee Pannu) feeding meat to the dogs. Meanwhile, a blast occurs inside her home in Jwalapur. She’s accused of her husband’s death by the police.
Rishabh Saxena (Vikrant Massey) and his family seek a homely girl for marriage whose expertise lies in cooking and doing household chores, while Rani is the exact opposite. However, Rani and Rishu end up marrying each other in an arranged marriage setup.
Now, Rishu is that shy guy who’s stunned by his wife’s beauty. He tries to please her in several ways and is head over heels in love with her.
Rani Kashyap doesn’t know how to cook and struggles with simple tasks like making chai. She’s fond of crime thrillers by Dinesh Pandit instead.
Things change when Neel (Harshvardhan Rane), Rishu’s nephew enters their life. Rani who isn’t satisfied by Rishu falls in love with Neel. Rani and Rishu’s married life is now a rollercoaster ride with Rani’s extra-marital physical relationship, with none other than Neel.
As the story unravels, Rani feels betrayed as Neel runs away leaving her alone. Rani feels stuck in the middle of everything and Rishu asks her to leave. However, in the end, the couple falls in love ultimately and decides to be with each other, no matter what.
The movie, Haseen Dillruba, is good to watch murder-mystery accompanied by light humor. The Saxena family cracks lame jokes and laughs it off. For instance, Khane Me Kya Hai? Havas; Jokes like these are common in the Saxena household.
Music is overall fine
The film contains songs such as Dil Melt Karda, Lakeeran which is a wonderful set of songs the film has to offer. Apt songs for situations made watching this movie an enjoyable experience.
A complex take on relationships and love
Rani and Rishu are married to each other in a typical arranged marriage setup. But, Rani falls in love with his nephew, Neel. The characters, Rani Kashyap and Rishabh Saxena share a complex relationship with each other. Later on, they decide to fight against all odds to stay together in the end.
There are several strange scenes present in the movie. One of these instances includes Rishabh swimming and floating with one of his hands in an attempt to stay alive. It leaves viewers wondering if this can ever happen in real life.
Although the beginning seems interesting, overall, the film has a predictable storyline. The plot fails to hook hard-core murder mystery and crime enthusiasts due to its revealing nature.
Not suitable for minors
With its intimate sex scenes and bloodshed, the movie contains violence, nudity, etc., and hence, isn’t meant for minors.
Haseen Dillruba is a revealing murder mystery and can be given a miss. The plot seems to be weak and the storyline isn’t very engaging. If you’re not interested in a love saga turned accidental murder, you may skip this one.
