8 Iconic Proposals In Bollywood Movies

As we enter Valentine’s week and there’s romance and love everywhere with people buying gifts for their loved ones, planning elaborate surprises, or simply gathering up the courage to say their feelings out loud, let us take a look at how Bollywood has managed to keep us company through the ages with its super entertaining rom-com. While there are hundreds of movies in this genre, this Propose Day, revisit some of the most iconic proposals in Bollywood that have permanently been etched into our memories.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Regarding Rom-Coms, we can all agree that YJHD is pretty iconic. The happy ending with one of the cutest proposals in Hindi cinema makes it even more awesome. It has the dilemma of Bunny trying to choose between his dreams and the love of his life, the grief Naina feels letting him go, and the breath of fresh air as he catches her off guard and finally pops the ring out.

Jab We Met

For all the hopeless romantics out there, it is a perfect concoction of romance and charm with a touch of humour that would leave you with the broadest grin.

Nothing beats the dramatic and highly anticipated closing scene of Jab We Met, with the backdrop of a rural landscape and the whistling train, and Geet running to Aditya, bursting with all the emotions she could feel. This scene is enough to bring a sense of relief to every Jab We Met fan. The sincerity in Aditya’s love and the innocence in Geet’s are all that romantics crave. I mean, who wouldn’t want a story like theirs anyway?

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

Growing up, this movie gave a lot of us some major expectations, not to forget the airport singing scene that tops the list. Jai and Aditi, while pretty confused about their feelings, gave us a sense of comfort by becoming that one special person for each other. The friendship, innocent love fights, and never-ending love between them made the movie one of the best from the Imran Khan rom-com era. Jai, riding a horse to the airport, sprinting to reach Aditi just in time to stop her from flying abroad, and singing the classic ‘jaane tu ya jaane naa…’ not so melodiously is all we need to make our day!

Break Ke Baad

Imran Khan never fails to awe his audience with heartwarming proposals. Abhay and Aaliya are childhood sweethearts and #couplegoals. They know each other like no one else does. While they have their ups and downs and go on their separate journeys, their love keeps bringing them back together in the strangest of ways. The anticipation as Aaliya rushes to stop Gulati and gets on a knee to confess her love, only to see her name printed on the card, there’s an overwhelming wave of love and affection that washes over them and the audience alike.

Kaabil

Following Rohan and Supriya and their love story that transcends their physical limitations, Kaabil has one of the most beautiful proposals. As the characters find comfort in each other’s company and begin to fall in love – Rohan proposes to Su in quite a grand way. There’s a beautiful score, a super pleasant backdrop, and a pleasant surprise as he slips the ring onto her finger. The movie might not have a happy arc, but the love, the romance, and the chemistry between the two leads are simply breathtaking.

Wake Up Sid

A tale of love and friendship beautifully narrated with the nooks and nuances of Mumbai, Wake Up Sid is one of those feel-good movies all Bollywood fans keep revisiting. As the monsoon that Sid so fondly mentions to the “new girl in the city,” Aisha, arrives, he finally knows what he wants in life. He reads his friend-roommate’s first-ever piece—a love letter to the city and him, wearing her favorite shirt.

The final scene is calm, yet it wraps up the madness and chaos of the entire movie. It’s simple and heartfelt—just two people realizing they are in love, drenched in rain, embracing by the sea—it’s perfect.

Cocktail

Although a fun and dramatic love triangle at its heart, Cocktail has a heartfelt confession that makes you both happy and a little sad at the same time. Not everyone flies across the globe to tell someone they love them, but Gautam does, and Veronica, like the super supportive friend that she is makes it all happen. Meera, after all the struggles and betrayals, finally getting to be with someone she loves is just refreshing to watch. And, of course, there’s nothing happier than the three of them resolving everything and becoming friends again!

2 states

This could easily be one of the craziest proposals ever—who gatecrashes an interview? As the beautiful story unfolds on a Business school campus and two people from completely different backgrounds fall for each other, there’s so much in 2 states that is relatable. From the campus nuances, the differences they would have to overcome, and the stress of getting good grades and landing a job, everything in this movie hits home. Ananya is surprised and happy beyond words as the love of her life finally gathers the courage to pour his feelings out to her. It isn’t surreal, but the poignance is what makes it so memorable and beautiful: “Ishq bhoot sahi par yeh, bhoot bada hi pyara hai!”

Don’t worry if you don’t have a plan this week; you can cosy up and rewatch all these beautiful romances and have a perfect date with yourself!
