Sanon entered the field of acting in 2014 with Sukumar’s Telugu psychological thriller, Nenokkadine, being a journalist who was the love interest of the character of Mahesh Babu’s Gautham. The film acquired varied evaluations from commentators.
A commentator for The Times of India wrote about Kriti Sanon that she “looks pretty” as well as “acts well,” whereas a commentator for Sify.com put down that she also “looks gorgeous” and felt her staging to be “okay” for a new settler. Later that year, Kriti Sanon paved her way to the Hindi movie through Sabbir Khan’s action-romance film Heropanti, with Tiger Shroff playing a major part with her.
The film had mixed feedback but was a surprising achievement, earning about ₹726 million (US$10 million) globally. In Bollywood Hungama, Taran Adarsh wrote about Sanon and that she “looks gorgeous as well as grasps her bit with certainty and self-confidence” and that she “has the trappings of a star,” where on the other hand, Rajeev Masand said that she “looks pretty and makes an impression despite her harebrained function.
” Srijana Das of The Times of India conversely criticized her emoting, saying that it was “more cheesy than sharp.” Sanon won the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award for Heropanti. In 2015, Sanon was cast in her second Telugu film, Sudheer Varma’s criminal drama film Dohchay, co-starring Naga Chaitanya.
She was then cast in Rohit Shetty’s comical action romance film Dilwale starring Shah Rukh Khan, Varun Dhawan, and Kajol, which broke many box office records, paving the way to one of the greatest-grossing Indian films of the time, grossing more than ₹3.72 billion (US$52 million) globally.
Anupama Chopra criticized the movie and wrote that Kriti Sanon and Varun Dhawan “work as bait, which brings in the condemnatory youth segment”. where the audience witnessed her with Sushant Singh Rajput as star-crossed partners taking rebirth. The movie flopped both acutely and commercially. In biting feedback, Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com tagged the movie “embarrassingly daft” although noted Sanon’s “statuesque, spirited existence.” Sanon’s simultaneous presentation of a headstrong village Indian woman who has the ambition to have a better life in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s romantic comedy film Bareilly Ki Barfi was better
evaluated, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao as a contrast to her in a modification of French writer Nicholas Barreau’s novel The Ingredients of Love. Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV observed that “a load of composing Bareilly Ki Barfi film rests upon Kriti Sanon and she doesn’t put a step wrong”, but Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express believed that despite Sanon’s effort, her skills lacked naturalism.
The income was over ₹548 million (US$7.7 million) compared to ₹200 million (US$2.8 million) budget. Her sole presentation in the year 2018 was a special song presentation for the music video of the song titled “Aao Kabhi Haveli Pe” in Amar Kaushik’s comedy horror film Stree, which Vijan produced along with Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K., who also wrote down the movie while composing their debut as producers.
