Jai Kishan Kakubhai “Jackie” Shroff is an Indian actor born on February 1, 1957. As of 2020, he has starred in over 220 films in 13 languages during his four decades in the Hindi cinema industry (Bollywood).
He has won a slew of accolades, including four Filmfare Awards. He’s also appeared in several well-known Tamil films, notably the highly acclaimed neo-noir thriller ‘Aaranya Kaandam.’
Because his family was impoverished, Shroff dropped out of school after 11th grade. He tried employment as an apprentice cook at Taj Hotels and as a flight attendant at Air India, but both roles were rejected owing to his lack of expertise.
He then went to work for “Trade Wings,” a local company near the Jehangir Art Gallery, as a travel agent.
An advertising agency accountant approached him at the bus stop and asked if he was interested in modeling.
Shroff proceeded to the National Advertising Agency, located in the same building as Davar’s college opposite Flora Fountain, for a photoshoot the next day during his lunch break.
This photoshoot for a suit shirt was the start of Shroff’s modeling career. In 1982, he made his debut in Dev Anand’s Swami Dada.
In 1983, Subhash Ghai cast him in the lead role of Hero, opposite Meenakshi Seshadri. The movie was a hit.
He went on to star in several films after Hero, including Andar Bashar. Jaanoo and Yudh enjoyed themselves. He directed Karma in 1986, which went on to become the highest-grossing film of the year. His next film, Kaash, was released.
Dahleez and Sachché Ká Bol-Bálá received critical appreciation but flopped at the box office. He rebuilt his career with some films such as Ram Lakhan, Tridev, and Parinda, which earned him a Filmfare award for best actor.
