Dasvi Movie Review: A Failed Take On Education Through Glorification Of A Corrupt Politician

Dasvi Movie Review: A Failed Take On Education Through Glorification Of A Corrupt Politician

Published

on

Dasvi has purely a theme inspired by a well-known politician of Haryana, but the depiction of the same is gutless. Dasvi is directed by Tushar Jalota, and the production is taken care of by Dinesh Vijan, Sandeep Leyzell, Shobhana Yadav, and Jio Studios being one of the producers. Released on 7th April 2022, this social comedy is available on Netflix and Jio Cinemas. Here’s Dasvi movie review which proves that it’s a failed take on education.

Abhishek Bachchan’s latest rendition in ‘Dasvi’ has been hyped too much. The actor’s father, legendary Amitabh Bachhan, has also praised his son for his work for the first time. We know that Abhishek is one of those gems who gets better with age, but has the gem’s brightness worked this time, or is the movie just another cinema work?

Dasvi Movie Review: Cast

The movie holds a good casting approach as you will see famous Youtubers such as Shivankit Singh Parihar and Arun Khushwas and Abhishek Bachhan, Yami Gautam Dhar, and Nimrat Kaur. Manu Rishi Chaddha, Chitranjan Tripathy, Mubashir Bashir, Sheikh, Danish Husain, and Rachit Tandon have played important roles in the story.

Dasvi Movie Review: Plot

Dasvi Movie Review: Plot

A well-known and extremely confident (or arrogant) politician, Ganga Ram Chaudhary, CM of Harit Pradesh (imaginary state), has been sentenced to judicial custody for a scam related to teacher hiring. Ganga Ram Chaudhary announced his wife, Bimal Devi, as the acting CM to keep the throne within the family. As the politicians do, just as we know, he enjoys a luxury even in the jail until Jyoti Deswal (Yami Gautam Dhar) takes charge of the prison as Superintendent. To keep himself away from the physical chores, Ganga Ram Chaudhary opts to prepare for the tenth standard. A verbal rampage between Ganga Ram and Jyoti Deswal turns ‘Dasvi’ from his way out to a motivated stubbornness. And he announced that he wouldn’t sit on CM’s chair if he failed the exam.

On the other hand, Bimla Devi has started liking the chair’s power and is now conscious about losing the same when Ganga Ram is out of prison. And that greed turns her into the villain of the story. How does Ganga Ram prepare for the ‘Dasvi’ exams? Will he be able to clear the exams? And who will rule the chair? These questions will be served with answers when you watch the movie.

Dasvi Movie Review: Fairly Speaking

Dasvi Movie Review: Fairly Speaking

The movie has failed on its face. Even though the movie has a crisp length of just minutes over 2 hours, you might feel like forwarding it a few times. Picking an issue as serious as the importance of education and combining it with humor and comedy that doesn’t work out is a shame.

Disregarding the fact that the movie is inspired by changing the names of places and characters is a pure depiction of gutlessness. While the movie throws light on the issue of education, the way we learn, and the obsession with power, glorifying a corrupt politician outright is what the movie has done as a bigger impact on.

Everything happens as smoothly as it was just meant to throughout the movie. And the climax that needed to have more screen time collapsed to the ending like a snapping of fingers. You might get to see some heart-warming moments, but the sketch and arcs of the characters are not defined well enough. The movie could have done better with the cast and the theme being good.

Dasvi Movie Review: Direction

Dasvi Movie Review: Direction

The director of the movie ‘Dasvi,’ Tushar Jalota, has not been able to awaken that inner voice in the audience that the story demands. Unarguably, there are quite some scenes that define a creative direction. For example, scenes where Ganga Ram reads about Indian history take him back in time in action with the revolutionaries, and it feels so good. But many things could have been done in a better way.

Dasvi Movie Review: Aesthetics

While most of the part of the movie keeps the audience locked inside a jail area, you will feel like you are in a picnic spot. A politician taking such a turn in such a short span of time feels unreal too. There is no proper information above the age of Ganga Ram, which is an important thing to provide when the movie is pushing the importance of education. The hairstyle that Ganga Ram carries doesn’t suit his personality at all.

Dasvi Movie Review: Music

Discussing the likeness of the movie’s music, you can say the songs can be listened to and are bearable to some extent. ‘Thaan Liya‘ is the best among the movie’s album as it depicts the protagonist’s strong beliefs and goes with the plot’s theme. The music is easily forgettable, and you will not even care to listen to it specifically once.

Dasvi Movie Review: Performances

All the actors have played their part with much dedication: Abhishek Bachhan, Yami Gauta, and Nimrat Kaur ace to get into the skin of their characters. But, like most Bollywood movies, getting the ‘HARYANVI’ dialect perfect still seems to be a problem. The characters might excel in some dialogues, but you will continuously feel a bit of weirdness throughout the movie. Manu Rishi Chaddha will bring smiles whenever he appears on the screen.

The Batman is getting tremendous applause from critics and audiences alike. The newest rendition based on the YEAR ONE and THE LONG HALLOWEEN comics had a tremendous weekend collection with a staggering $258 million at the global box office and has already passed the milestone of $300 million fifth day, confirming that it is being loved worldwide.

Although there are certain people, both critics, and audience, that feel otherwise and have presented different opinions. Scroll down to read the unpopular opinions about the Batman movie.

The Batman: Unpopular Opinions From
Critics And Audience

The Batman Unpopular Opinions Number 1: Pacing and Run time

The Batman: Pacing and Run time

The film has very slow pacing with a run time of 2h 56m, which is a lot for today’s audience.

The Batman Unpopular Opinions Number 2: Underdeveloped chemistry between The Bat and The Cat

The Batman: Underdeveloped chemistry between The Bat and The Cat

Though both are great characters on their own, Batman and Catwoman’s chemistry falls apart at some crucial points.

The Batman Unpopular Opinions Number 3: Underutilisation of supporting characters

The Batman: Underutilisation of supporting characters

Some integral supporting characters like Alfred (Batman’s most trusted ally) seem very underutilised and do not contribute to the storyline as expected.

The Batman Unpopular Opinions Number 4: Hyper-realistic and Lacks Action

The Batman: Hyper-realistic and Lacks Action

The Batman being very realistic takes the experience and thrill of watching a comic book movie away. The film places action sequences in very few places which takes away the thrill.

The Batman Unpopular Opinions Number 5: Forced inclusion

The Batman: Forced inclusion

Joker’s inclusion doesn’t seem like a genuine story demand and is more of a forced inclusion.

Are you one of those who have felt the similar things mentioned in the post? Or are you one of those who have ushered nothing but love upon the film? Do let us know in the comments.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The World Of Thrillers, Gunfires & Cold-Blooded Mobsters

A SonyLiv crime drama presenting the powerful Atwals owning a huge resort in the heart of Manali enjoying the marriage of the family’s son. The plot takes its villainous twists and turns after a patriarch shoots a tribal dancing girl under the influence of gaiety and alcohol.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: Dramatis personae

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: Dramatis personae

The script is full of a multitude of eccentric characters who are completely ruthless and thoroughly corrupt. The only innocent person with a conscience is killed in cold blood. Surya Sharma as Rinku with his sharp gangster image obviously created a lasting impact. Also, Papaji played by Harsh Chhaya as the filthy-mouthed alcoholic impresses the audience beyond measure.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: Good or Evil?

Perhaps, this crime thriller is not the one that would give you an easy choice between who is just or who is a criminal. This is undoubtedly an innovative way to portray how reality unfolds itself when lawlessness is the law of the land, where there is no thin line between good men and bad men. From the cops to the media persons, everyone is corrupt in the drama.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The post-truth era

No single person in the story is a man of integrity, everyone is fallible to the delicacies of money and power. If you are someone who seeks at least some morals, sorry to tell you, this one will disappoint you. Truth is just a matter of perspective here, untrustworthiness rules.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: A little exhausting at times

The first season would definitely be a wild ride where you would be constantly thrilled to know what lies ahead but certainly, the experience gets saturated after a while. It is maybe because of the constant bombardment of twists after twists that the characters make or rather it is the same chor-police narrative that is to blame. The second season feels a little stretched till the end of time.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The Naxals

The show certainly did a great job in mainstreaming the Naxal ideology. As the difference between good & bad blurs, the audience is slightly invited to shift to the tribal perspective. The character played by Koyal, a tribal girl is extraordinary in depicting the rules of the jungle where the less powerful have no means but to be on a killing spree to get whatever little justice they can for the damages done to them.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The language

The show depicts an influx of Bengali & Punjabi cultures. If looked at carefully, the differences between the lifestyle of these two states are clearly visible that making the show vibrant in its own way. Especially the cuss words of Punjabi are so crude that they will betray your ears.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The message

Well, life is of little value when politics, money, and power proves to be larger than the humans who have created them in the very first place. People are ready to do almost anything for petty freebies. In such a world even the influence of insensitive sex & drugs appears pretty normal.

Undekhi Season 2 Web Series Review: The ending

Season 2 ended with lots of melodrama and gunshots. The bombs interspersed with lots of action sometimes appeared to be just too much but definitely not enough to deter the echo of the coming seasons if there are any in the cue. Although, that would be like asking a lot from the direction team if they have to cater to its loyal audience with the same thrill.

The stellar performances with some really good situational shenanigans make it worth giving it a try.

A Thursday: A Gripping Yet Predictable Thriller

Published

on

A Thursday

The story is about a playschool Teacher Naina, who keeps 16 small students as hostages and keeps a series of demands in return for every kid. Consequently, it becomes an emergency in the country.

A Thursday Review: Cinematography

The Cinematography is relevant to the gripping thriller with a certain subtlety. It is successful in creating a background to the plot with a little darkness and constant rain to keep the viewer engaged and let the audience wonder what might happen next.

A Thursday Review: Pace

A Thursday has a runtime of 129 minutes that feels a little exaggerated, particularly when the film delves into searching Naina’s past. Also, the film feels predictable in the end and seems a bit long.

A Thursday Review: Theme

The film raises an important issue of capital punishment for rapists by highlighting the lifelong impact on victims of sexual violence and the inability of the system to deliver justice.

A Thursday Review: Performances

There can be contrasting views, but the performances have been noteworthy. Yami Gautam proves her matte as an actor again with a fine performance that holds the film.

Neha Dhupia has again done a commendable job while playing a pregnant cop and understands her character well. Atul Kulkarni makes hard efforts to make us believe in his character but seems overdramatic at some points

Overall, the movie tries to keep the audience engaged with the viewer but feels predictable after a point. However, it successfully conveys an important theme.

Watch the film for its theme and performances particularly if you are a thriller fan.
