Bestseller Review: A Thriller That Gives Clues About How NOT To Write A Bestseller

Bestseller Review: A Thriller That Gives Clues About How NOT To Write A Bestseller

Based on Ravi Subramanian’s book “The Bestseller She Wrote,” the story is about an author Tahir Wazir who doesn’t understand what stealing content or plagiarism means. The consequences of which led two siblings Adya starring Shruti Hassan and Parth starring Satyajeet Dubey on a revenge spree.

Bestseller Review: A Thriller That Gives Clues About How NOT To Write A Bestseller

Cinematography

The camera shifts from Kashi, modern-day Varanasi, Neemrana, Mussoorie to Mumbai. Showing us the stark differences between completely different worlds. The Great Indian Divide between the metropolis and the rural backyard.

What’s a thriller?

Bestseller review: An unintelligent thriller made like a mystery novel for pre-schoolers | Web Series - Hindustan Times

Perhaps, the makers do not know what that means. Everything is spoon-fed, there is no suspense, and thus the attention span falters. There is no use dragging a car without petrol.

Gauhar Khan is “One Woman Army”

Bestseller web series review: Don't judge this book by its cover

When all other actors fail to put up the plot together, only Gauhar is someone we feel sorry for. It’s tough to put up with a man who seeks validation from everyone, who is nothing but a parasite.

Shruti Haasan’s accent plus the acting is too much to bear. When she doubles up, it is already too late. Mithun’s joke does not make us laugh, while Satyajeet Dubey as Parth seems a misfit for the character as he’s too simple.

The Psychological Murder

Bestseller Web Series Review: Shruti Haasan's Thriller Is Predictable But Makes For An Interesting Watch - Filmibeat

You don’t touch me, but you kill me! Nobody died in cold blood in the story, nobody was physically harmed, but perhaps if there are no scars to showcase, there are soul scars. Very aptly portrayed.

Kahaaniyan nahi mit ti

Bestseller web series review: Don't judge this book by its cover

People die; stories don’t. People die, memories stay. Like this, there are many important lessons to learn, but the dialogues are too bombastic and fall flat.

Too many misgivings

Because of the poor direction, mismatch in showtime, and runtime coupled with more than average acting, we want to feel what the characters feel but cannot. There is almost no catharsis, no surprise, no empathy.

Why is Wazir, the man, not dead?

Bestseller Ending Explained | Amazon Prime Video Series | Summary

Somewhere or the other, we relate to the “Modern Man.” He understands that he is a chauvinist but can’t let go of his alter ego.

Learnings to take home

There is indeed nothing original, almost everything is inspired, but there is undoubtedly a fine line that turns fatal when missed. Perhaps, this is something to take home despite the almost bland direction.

The story was good, the way it was depicted was not. Tell us, what do you think?

Aadarsh Naari Stereotypes

These strong female leads are your silver screen lessons or two on feminism that show a diverse range of women, not a single image of what it feels like to be a woman.

8 Strong Women Leads That Shattered Aadarsh Naari Stereotypes

Rani from Queen is a lesson of self-discovery

Rani from Queen

Gone are the days when marriage is said to be the only option available for a woman. Rani is defiant. She is no longer dependent on a man to show her a good day. When left on the altar, she is not your typical wailing woman. She chose to go on her honeymoon, all alone.

Gangubai teaches you all the right lessons on honor

Gangubai Kathiawadi

From triggering the controversial topic of legalizing sex work to standing face-to-face in front of all the woes, she is a lesson of bravery. She chose her fellow female camaraderie over the man of her dreams.

Meera from NH10 could be heard shouting “my way or the highway”

Meera from NH10

When stuck in the middle of an honor-killing fiasco in the outskirts of Haryana infamous for its regressive bylaws like Khap Panchayats, Meera’s story is horrifying. She avenges the death of her lover, all gory, never faltering for a single moment.

Sulu is your middle-class housewife who tells that dreams never end

Tumhari Sulu

In the movie Tumhari Sulu, almost everyone was against Sulu when she chose to work as a radio jockey to supplement the household income. Society belittled her worth, cast slurs against her but she dared to stay put. She tells one and all to hear that dreaming is my birthright!

Neerja Bhanot is a both real and reel life example of a woman who stands upright even when all hell is let loose

Neerja Bhanot

Neerja, a flight attendant who has been a victim of domestic violence helps the passengers escape safely in a hijacked plane. It shatters the belief that women are mere victims and grants them an agency of their own.

Bulbbul sings melodious, which doesn’t mean she is too soft to bear any injustice

Bulbbul

Have you ever thought about why only women are witches? Why when you close your eyes and I say, witch, do you imagine a figure with long hair? This movie is a path-breaking plot displaying some brutal truths of patriarchy like these with Bulbbul shining brighter than ever.

Rani Padmavati’s folktale is about sacrifice, compassion but also a lot more than that

Rani Padmavati

Depicting the gruesome practice of Jauhar practiced in several parts of Rajasthan, Padmaavat asks very bold questions if seen with a critical eye. Is self-immolation the only solution to save honor? Why didn’t the warrior Rajputs let their women die instead of teaching them to fight?

Vidya Bagchi is a pregnant woman who doesn’t let her anatomy decide her destiny

Vidya Bagchi from Kahaani

The movie Kahaani showcases a lone wolf fighting against all the odds to avenge her husband. Shot in Kolkata, the center of the great Pujo festival, Vidya is no less than an earthly incarnation of Maa Durga. She doesn’t want to be worshiped, she wants to be avenged for her wrongs.
