The most anticipated second season of “Love, Victor” has dropped finally. Let’s jump back into gay, Latino protagonist Victor’s life, and discover what makes it worth watching. From its talented young cast to the conversations about ethnicity and sexuality it stirs, Love Victor is a must-watch. Read to find out why Love, Victor is worth watching and the series review.

It’s a “Love, Simon” spin-off, but more diverse

7 Reasons To Watch Love, Victor | Ethnicity | Love, Victor Review

Unlike many queer teen dramas, “Love, Victor” sports a super racially diverse cast. If we talk about Victor’s ethnicity, Victor and his family are Colombian-Puerto Rican, and apart from this, the other primary side characters have a 3:3 ratio of POC: white characters. “Love, Victor” helps remedy many of the issues people had with “Love, Simon”, particularly its coming-out story of a white, rich male. Victor is not the only Latino, he also comes from a family that struggles financially, and one that is not quick to accept his newfound sexuality- often true to real life.

While Season 1 introduces and delves further into the lives and relationships of primary side characters like Mia, Lake, and Felix, Season 2 does a phenomenal job of taking some of these initially one-note characters and fleshing them out. Lake’s and Felix’s realistic yet touching relationship pleasantly surprises again and again. Season 2 brings Felix’s home life to a much-needed focus, as well as introduces other incredibly likeable, multi-dimensional characters like Rahim.

Amazing chemistry between leads

Amazing chemistry between leads

Unlike many stories about queer teens, “Love, Victor”’s first season plays wonderfully on Victor and Benji’s slow burn, “will-they-won’t-they” relationship, making its eventual conclusion much more worthwhile. This is augmented by the chemistry between the leads- Michael Cimino and George Sear play off each other well, and moments between them feel genuine and emotionally charged.

Great Latinx representation

Great Latinx representation

It’s rare to see a good casual representation of a different race or heritage on screen, and even rarer in an LGBT+ show. Victor’s Puerto Rican heritage is shown in subtle ways, from their deep family roots to their sharing of traditional Latinx foods. It also resists any racial stereotyping or reducing characters to their ethnicities, instead depicting multi-dimensional Latinx characters.

Teens that Look and Act like Teens

Teens that Look and Act like Teens

Unlike certain teen dramas (looking at you, CW!), where the characters are played by actors that look way too old for the demographic they’re meant to be playing, the “Love, Victor” cast is full of teenage actors or actors barely in their 20s. This, combined with the occasionally awkward, but realistically teenage use of slang and dialogue, technological savviness, and the depiction of sexual fluidity apart from the male leads, makes “Love, Victor” feel like an authentic teen show that young adults can relate to and understand.

Family-Focused coming out story (and its aftermath)

Family-Focused coming out story (and its aftermath)

Home plays a big role in the lives of “Love, Victor”’s teenagers, as it often does, in real life. Victor’s struggles with discovering his sexuality and coming out are wrapped up in his upbringing and his family’s attitudes towards the subject. Season 2 poignantly explores the aftermath of his coming out, how his parents slowly attempt to embrace his sexuality, all the while learning and growing themselves. Growth and depth are also afforded to Mia and Felix’s families. “Love, Victor” avoids demonizing Rahim and Victor’s supposedly less than accepting families, instead choosing to represent and understand the perspective of an immigrant family, and their “non-white” situations.

Fun romantic entanglements

Fun romantic entanglements

Nothing creates drama and plot better in a teen show than love triangles and romantic drama, and “Love, Victor” goes all out with its romantic entanglements. Season 1 features three and more love triangles, whereas season 2 takes it up a notch- with every character having been involved in a love triangle at some point. Of course, it goes to show the ever-shifting messiness of teenage relationships and makes for a fun, engaging watch.

Love, Victor ethnicity

Love, Victor ethnicity

Victor which is played by Michael Cimino is from a half Puerto Rican, half Colombian-American family, which lives in Atlanta.

6 Reasons To Watch Millie Bobby Brown In Damsel Movie

9 Reasons To Watch Millie Bobby Brown In Damsel Movie

On March 8, Millie Bobby Brown’s latest movie, Damsel, was released on Netflix’s OTT platform. Here’s why you should be absolutely thrilled to watch Millie Bobby Brown In Damsel Movie.

Primarily, the theme takes a traditional narrative of a fantasy world – a girl from a lesser kingdom has her hand given in marriage to a prince from a wealthy kingdom to save her starving people. This tale is as old as time, and naturally, you would expect a conventional ending of a love story – let me debunk it for you then ( if you haven’t seen the trailer already) – there is no LOVE STORY- there is only a girl who fights for her survival against all odds to save herself. This is no story of Prince Charming and a damsel – this is a story of a girl who fights a dragon with nothing but her wits to rely on.

Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? You might recognise Millie from Stranger Things (where, conveniently, she also plays the role of not-so-damsel-girl) and the Enola Holmes movies. It’s apparent that Millie Bobby Brown has no intention of playing any damsel in any of her works, and this movie is no different.

Plot of Damsel (2024)

The plot flows – Elodie, being from an impoverished kingdom, hitches away with a prince whose family seems eager to be ambiguous. Naturally, her stepmother feels like a piece is missing from the puzzle and tries to warn Elodie of the marriage proposal but to no avail. Thus, the nuptials go on as planned, and soon after their marriage, she is whisked away to some homage ceremony. Creepy right? Well, yeah. It goes without saying she ends up at the bottom of a pit as a sacrifice for the dragon lumbering beneath the caves. Thus, she uses her mind and broken body to escape the dragon’s lair, only to stumble upon the deceptive truth of her husband’s family.

Damsel is a dark fantasy movie

As a genre, dark fantasy rarely finds its way up the ladder among sci-fi, dystopian, and historical sagas. Some fantasy thrillers, yes, but the overall moral compass never really strays. In Damsel, the directors played with the concepts of morality and deception thrillingly, weaving a gripping tale for the young adult generation.

A shift from generic romance

The movie definitely has love at its center, but romantic love isn’t one of them. This makes Damsel quite refreshing in the face of monotonous romantic releases, especially in the fantasy category.

It has a fire-breathing DRAGON

Generally, mythical creatures like dragons aren’t widespread outside of Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. Damsel movie, however, brings you a fiercely protective dragon.

Terrific Visuals

From the depths of the dragon’s lair to the parapets of the prince’s castle, everything has been aesthetically pleasing. The Tolkien-esque appeal of Damsel sets it apart from many conventional fantasy films.

An accurate book-to-movie adaptation

If you’re a reader, you’d know how hard that is to come by. However, the best thing about watching Damsel is that it is a faithful adaptation of the book Damsel by Evelyn Skye (March 13, 2023).

Millie in Action

If you’ve seen Eleven or Enola in action, you’d know that it is always a veritable treat to see Millie Bobby Brown in action. Trust us to confirm that there is a lot of drama and action within the movie that will charm your mind. From clashes with the dragon to running for her dear life, Elodie is always in action.

Thus, a general conclusion is that Damsel, now streaming on Netflix, has some enigmatic flair to it, all thanks to the production team’s effort and Millie Bobby Brown’s resilient character. The cast is star-studded with known faces like Robin Wright, Angela Bassett, Nick Robinson, etc. With a dark twist to fairytale lore, this movie has been under mixed reviews from peers. Be your judge, and stream Damsel now.

However, if you’re still not convinced you should give this Netflix adaptation a try, then maybe the reasons we conjured up could be of some assistance.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024), which is now streaming on Netflix, is an adaptation of an anime series of the same name.

As a masterwork, this adaptation defies normal live adaptations, owing to its excellence in selecting the accurate casts to fill the imagery of Aang, Katara, Zuko, Sokka, and other characters, paired with the immaculate sets, aesthetic CGI, and direction.

7 Bending Reasons To Stream Avatar: The Last Airbender On Netflix

Why should Avatar: The Last Airbender On Netflix be on your watchlist?

There are many reasons to lose yourself in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender, whether you are an avid watcher of the animated series or are completely new to the fandom. Let us list them for you now, shall we?

Rich world buildings should be your first attraction

The show’s carefully constructed environment is something that is both visually appealing and thought-provoking. Every element seems to have been carefully considered, from the subtleties of the bending from animation to live action to the plethora of cultural melting of the four nations.

The complexities of each character deserve appreciation

Every character in this series has something to offer – in short, they don’t cage themselves in one-dimensional narratives. They’re complex and dynamic people who own their different issues and talents, like Aang’s struggle in accepting the responsibility of being an Avatar, Katara’s resilience in learning water bending alone, or Zuko’s multifaceted consciousness. Each of the characters shows a healthy capacity for growth throughout the series.

Immaculate themes like love, friendship, duty, loyalty

Avatar: The Last Airbender On Netflix is a wholesome show that centers around themes like loyalty, friendship, and the strength of love. Each character has a way of showing that, be it Zuko’s respect for his uncle, Sokka, and Katara’s sibling relationship, or Aang’s connection and faith in all. Thus, inherent loyalty is born. Their support for each other through plight and delight would warm your heart instantly.

Cutting-edge acting by the chosen actors

The actors who play the roles of Zuko (Dallas Liu), Katara (Kiawentiio Tarbell), Aang (Gordon Cormier), Sokka (Ian Ousley), Azula (Elizabeth Yu), the Fire Lord (Daniel Dae Kim), etc. did an excellent job as it is. They portrayed each character in the exact light the animated series did all those years ago—it’s like someone shook the animated series hard, and these actors fell out—it was that perfect casting.

Humourous, educational and emotional

Avatar: The Last Airbender On Netflix has a multi-cache of emotions – primarily, it is humorous and lighthearted despite its emphasis on important and heavy themes. Be it Sokka and his jokes or the cabbage seller’s plight, the adaptation balances fun and seriousness in tandem. Moreover, it’s deeply educational about Asian culture as it mainly draws its cultural themes from there. Plus, it has an emotional weight to it – with all the backstories.

Who doesn’t like epic battle scenes or carefully crafted and strong female characters? From Kyoshi to Katara to Azula or the Northern Tribe Princess, Avatar has female characters so well-driven that it is a veritable treat to see them kick up some well-deserved chaos.
