Zomato and Swiggy Executives are human too; treat them like one!
In a recent happening reported from a mall in Udaipur, it was discovered that a poster read, “ Swiggy and Zomato not allowed in the lift. Please use stairs.” Yes! You read that correctly.
This incident came to light through the Twitter handle of a journalist who completely rubbished this practice and for the right reasons.
The first thing that crops up instantly in our brains is whether or not people issuing these notices are human!
To hundreds of thousands of people in India and abroad, food delivery apps are a blessing and can not be done away with. The luxury that these executives from Swiggy, Zomato, etc., bring with them is unparalleled. Be it a hot day of summer, freezing cold, heavy showers outdoors, these people are expected to deliver our orders in a stipulated amount of time. Not to forget the boon that these apps have been in this Coronavirus Pandemic.
When you could not step out of your respective homes, these people went all out with contactless delivery. How blind can a social structure be, after all?
Response
This tweet triggered a strong wave of anger amongst the Twitterati, wherein various people claimed it to be a “violation of human rights” in the first place.
In a tweet by Shahab Jafri, he noted, “Do the people who have put a ban believe that Zomato or Swiggy provide their Delivery boy with extra nutrients to climb 10-20 floors for every 2nd or 3rd delivery? Or they don’t order food from Swiggy or Zomato or any other delivery service? This is downright dumb and insensitive.”

On the other Tangent
While on the one hand this notice was heavily criticized, there was also a group of people who defended it, claiming that there is nothing wrong with it owing to the global Corona Virus Pandemic, which is still lurking around amidst us.
There is bound to be an alternative perspective to every story because we as humans have a thinking faculty, and it often compels us to think on the contrary.
However, suppose we break out the clutches of discrimination based on class (not to mention other giants in this bracket like religion, gender, caste, etc.). In that case, we will see that there is absolutely a zilch need for notices such as these for our fellow human race. And for a second, if we are so concerned about the pandemic, please ask your food outlets to use their services and drop the packages until the area that is accessible to the valets of Swiggy and Zomato.
