Lata Mangeshkar, the Nightingale of India, a legendary singer, and Bharat Ratna recipient, passed away on Sunday in Mumbai. She composed music occasionally and is called one of India’s most influential singers. The legend has sung nearly 30,000 songs in a career over decades.
- Lata Mangeshkar’s birth Name was ‘Hema .’Later, it was changed to Lata taking inspiration from a character’s name in her father’s play, ‘ Latika.’
- Her first song was “Naachu Ya Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari.”
- She was a Member of the Upper House of Parliament.
- The legend has been felicitated with the Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan, Dadasaheb Phalke Award, and Bharat Ratna. She was feted with three National Film Awards and won the Filmfare Best Female Playback Singer awards on four occasions.
- Lata Mangeshkar was the most recorded artist in the Guinness Book of Records 1974.
- She was the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London. She revealed in an interview that She never heard her songs because she would find several faults in her singing.
- Her last recorded song was ‘Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki’ – a tribute to the Indian Army released on March 30, 2019. India did lose its nightingale, but her music will live with us forever.
