The story revolves around Gus, also known as Sweet Tooth, a unique hybrid, half-human, and half-deer boy, who goes on a journey to search for his mother, Birdie. On the other hand, Dr. Aditya Singh searches for a cure for the H5G9 virus ‘The Sick’ to treat his ailing wife, Rani.

Surprisingly, magic realism feels so real in Sweet Tooth. A world with fantastical and magical elements where characters like Gus, the protagonist, come alive is portrayed. Realistic fiction is combined with it to enhance the experience.
A hopeful re-imagination of post-pandemic life
The most important thing that Sweet Tooth instills in us is hope. Originally a dystopian comic by Lemire, this time it’s a hopeful re-imagination of the post-apocalypse life. Hybrids gain recognition as special children and are studied in order to understand more about the Virus.

People who were earlier afraid of them aren’t scared anymore. Hope combined with acceptance is the best thing that can ever happen. The tone is hopeful, and it’s a must in these times of the pandemic.

It all begins with a coughing lady treated by Dr. Aditya Singh. It is declared as H5G9 Virus, also known as The Sick, in a small time span. Surprisingly, animal-human babies, aka hybrids, are born as a result of it.

These children will surely win your heart, and you’ll fall in love with them. Sweet Tooth is set in a decade after the Virus created havoc. Yet people still wonder, what came first, the hybrids or the Virus?

The cast is the main reason why the characters come to life. A gorgeous cast that has put in their heart and soul into crafting a magical vibe is truly an incredible job they’ve done on their part. It seemed like the Great Crumble came alive while filming in New Zealand. The scenery was to die for. And, the landscape is so mesmerizing that one can’t take their eyes off it. Initially, they had plans of shooting only one episode here, but they fell in love with the location. And, ended up shooting the entire series in New Zealand.
Family-friendly
All thanks to the Makers, as they’ve made it an ideal watch for families as well as kids. Taking advice from the original comic creator, Jeff Lemire. The element of friendship and the importance of family relations has been highlighted through several dialogues and acts. It’s a great series to binge on during family dinners or outings.
Sweet Tooth is a hopeful and warm take on the post-apocalyptic world. If you’re feeling too low on a Sunday afternoon due to the horrific events happening around you, watch Sweet Tooth instead. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed. Utterly magical and truly phenomenal, Sweet Tooth is one-of-its-kind.
If you’re a person who’s into comics and doesn’t enjoy the series, you can choose the former. Also, don’t mind skipping a few parts if you want to binge-watch it in one go. You’ll get an essence of the episode even if you do that.
