September OTT 2024 Roundup: Love, Sitara
Released on 27 September on ZEE5, Love Sitara is an ode to the two-state archetype: the South Indian girl and the North Indian boy. After dating for a while, Sitara and Arjun decide to marry, but their journey is complicated by cultural differences, personal secrets, and hidden family truths. As these revelations surface, they must confront challenges that test their love and commitment.
Set amidst the backdrop of Kerala, Love Sitara tries really hard to stick to Bollywood cliches, not complicating the storyline while making it an easy and wholesome watch. However, the plot seems too forced, coupled with bland dialogue delivery. Director Vandana Kataria set up the perfect cast, but somehow it feels mismatched. Love, Sitara was, unfortunately, a miss.
September OTT 2024 Roundup: Call Me Bae
Featuring Ananya Pandey and directed by Karan Johar, Call Me Bae was released on September 6 on Amazon Prime. The series showcases a riches-to-rags storyline when Bae gets caught cheating on her husband and is thrown to the streets to fend for herself. The story then follows Bae’s journey to becoming a top-notch journalist and becomes a whistleblower set out to expose the dark secrets of influential men in her industry.
While there were some critics about the dialogue delivery, the show lived up to its hype with perfect casting. Ananya’s acting was widely praised, with many pointing out that she didn’t have to work hard to live the life she already lives. Call Me Bae was a hit.
September OTT 2024 Roundup: Taaza Khabar Season 2
Season 2 of Taaza Khabar premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 26 September and continues the storyline of Bhuvan Bam’s character Vasant Gawde. In Season 1, we saw Vasant Gawde’s life taking a major turn when he goes from becoming a slum dog, to a rich man. As season 1
progresses, Vasant begins to change when money enters his life, he lies, he cheats and manipulates. In the end of Season 1, while he is hunted by cops, Vasant sees news headlines notifying about his death on the phone.
As Season 2 takes shape, Vasant has disappeared and the storyline about his whereabouts continue. Indian comedian turned actor Bhuvan Bam has given an impactful performance, and the series is an absolute mix of humour and insightful social commentary amidst a vibrant cinematography. Season 2 of Taaza Khabar is a hit.

September OTT 2024 Roundup: Honeymoon Photographer
Released on September 27, Honeymoon Photographer revolves around Ambika, a photographer, hired to document a honeymoon in Maldives. After one drunken night, Ambika wakes up with no memory of the night before, only to find out the groom, Adhir, dead facedown on the beach. The series navigates the journey of finding the killer and what led to Adhir’s death.
While the synopsis of the series and the title sound intriguing, drawing in viewers, the series falls short. The first episode creates some anticipation, suggesting viewers binge-watch the series, however, the plot seems guessable. It’s a murder mystery series with very little mystery.
If you are looking for a casual watch, or something to have playing in the background while you finish your chores, Honeymoon Photographer is perfect. Otherwise, it seems to be a miss.
What’s upcoming in October 2024 OTT?
While people prepare themselves for Diwali and Halloween, the OTT industry has scheduled a bunch of binge-watch series you can binge-watch during the holidays with your family, friends, or loved ones. From Karan Johar’s The Tribe to Manavat Murders and Boat from the South Indian cinema, October 2024 OTT is all about comfort and binge watching without feeling guilty.
October OTT 2024 Roundup: The Tribe
While social media is influencing all the trends around the world, Karan Johar realises a reality TV show on social media influencers that influences these trends. The Tribe, which released on Amazon Prime on October 4, features an influencer marketing company, CollabTribe, which takes five Indian-origin creators to LA to live together in a content house, all expenses paid. The catch?
Make content in a way that all the money spent on them comes back. The Tribe gives Indian viewers a closer look into the lives of influencers and also features some (or a lot) drama between the girls as they struggle to live together.
While the show was highly anticipated because of the well-known cast, The Tribe lacks the reality tv show element of character growth. A lot of the script feels repeated and all the episodes feel the same, reducing the reality show to just rich people drama. If your guilty pleasures are watching people fight on reality tv, then you know what to binge watch.
October OTT 2024 Roundup: Manvat Murders
Released on October 4 on SonyLiv, Manvat Murders is a Marathi-language crime-drama based on true-stories of five women who were brutally murdered in 1972 in the town of Manvat. As the case baffles the local police, Special Crime Branch Officer Ramakant Kulkarni works to uncover dark secrets and hidden motives leading to the murders. The series focusses on the seriousness of the murders and is paired with eerie and hauntingly beautiful background music. It is well narrated, and the viewers are easily able to connect with the characters.
The 8-episode series is gripping as it hooks viewers into wanting to know the full story. Well-shot and well directed to create mystery, which keeps the viewers hooked, the series is a must-watch. If you are a murder or crime mystery fan, then this series is for you.
October OTT 2024 Roundup: CTRL
Released on October 4 on Netflix, CTRL, starring Ananya Pandey and Vihaan Samat, shows us how far AI can go to ruin people’s lives. Nella and Joe are the perfect influencer couple, however, when Joe cheats on her, Nella uses an AI app called CTRL to erase him from her life until she goes too far.
The film CTRL is well-timed in a generation where everything is slowly taken over by AI and technology. The film shows a dark phase of technology, an uncomfortable wake-up call of what our obsession with the latest technology can do. If you’re into sci-fi thrillers, then this is definitely a must watch for you.
October OTT 2024 Roundup: Boat
Starring popular comedian Yogi Babu, this Tamil movie released on October 1 on Prime Video tells the story of ten passengers who escape by sea in a small boat amidst the Japanese bombardment of Madras. However, the passengers are in a for a surprise, when they get trapped in a shrinking boat. What ensues next, is a series of comedy and intrigue.
While the movie started with an interesting storyline while giving viewers context on Tamil history, the movie didn’t measure up to audience expectations. Meanwhile, native Tamil speakers also found the film’s portrayal of Tamil-speaking British officers offensive. The humor seems forced, and the pop culture reference is jarring. If you’re looking for a decent survival drama to watch this month, then Boat can be your pick. However, be prepared for some disappointment.
September’s OTT releases were a mix of hits and misses. Call Me Bae and Taaza Khabar Season 2 stood out with strong storytelling and performances, while Love, Sitara and Honeymoon Photographer fell flat.
As we head into October, there’s plenty to look forward to, with new shows catering to a variety of tastes—from reality TV drama to crime thrillers. Despite a few underwhelming titles, the OTT scene remains a top destination for entertainment.
