Nature Shows Recommendation For Nature Lovers

With the world under lockdown, the outdoors seemed like a distant memory to all of us. It has been so long since we’ve stepped out of our houses that imagining ourselves amidst nature seems ever more elusive and almost unattainable. But with every problem comes a solution- Here’s a list of ground-breaking nature documentaries and shows you should watch to marvel at the beauty of our planet, right from the comforts of your own home!

Our Planet (2019)

Our Planet (2019)

Watch it on: Netflix

It exposes viewers to the unsettling nuisance that the world faces alarmingly so, at the hands of us humans. Featuring insightful but pointed commentary about how these environments are worth the attention, the series is a call to action, sooner rather than later.

Hostile Planet (2019)

Hostile Planet (2019)

Watch it on: Disney+

While exploring some of Earth’s most hostile environments, Hostile Planet shows the animals’ struggles in these places must bear, only to stay alive. While it’s not the easiest show to watch, you’ll learn to appreciate their strength, faith, and efforts. Such shows teach us a lot about our own lives as well!

Ice on Fire (2019)

Ice on Fire (2019)

Watch it on: HBO

Although climate change is a tricky subject to navigate, one needs a reasonable insight into what the planet is going through. Narrated by our very own Leonardo DiCaprio, the show is an insight into problems with possible solutions to them. It is an unscathed insight into what’s at stake. So, while it might be a light watch, it can contribute tremendously to our battle headed uphill if taken seriously.

Blue Planet II: miniseries (2017)

Blue Planet II: miniseries (2017)

Watch it on: Amazon, YouTube, Google Play

The show provides intimate, breathtaking looks at the undersea world with a particular focus on its occupants (from seahorses to squids and whales) and the environmental issues that threaten them. Pretty basic for a nature-related documentary? Yes. Still worth the watch? Yes. The cutest Sea-lions? Absolutely Yesss!

Chasing Ice (2012)

Chasing Ice (2012)

Watch it on: Amazon

Chasing Ice acknowledges a celebrated National Geographic photographer as he documents several years of climate change using time-lapse cameras. We never truly realize the consequences of our actions against the environment; they seem remarkably insignificant, but imagine centuries upon centuries of countless such trivial activities- documented into one short video? It’s a call to attention or, more so- a call to action because change starts small.

Dynasties (2018)

Dynasties (2018)

Watch it on: Amazon Prime

Five endangered animals are tracked for two or more years, with cameras documenting the highs and lows of their lives as they battle to survive in increasingly difficult environments: lions, painted wolves, tigers, chimps, and emperor penguins.

Night on Earth

Night on Earth

Watch it on: Netflix

Nature of Earth is a British nature docuseries that focuses on filming active animals during the night using new technology. It showcases animals in their natural habitat but in a low-light setting. We have never really thought of this, but it can be equally interesting to watch—a state-of-the-art production besides a nature-based documentary.

Let us know of more such documentaries/shows that you might have watched as a child but will be imprinted in your mind forever.
