Jeff Winger
Jeff is a lawyer who is forced to go to community college after his license is revoked due to his college degree being fake. His experience with his study group in community college turns him from an arrogant, nonchalant, and rude person to someone who cares and thinks about others before himself.
Britta Perry
Britta is shown to be a fake activist who only speaks radical thoughts and never acts upon them. The show constantly jokes about her acting like she is on a higher moral ground than everyone else. But slowly, as the show progresses, she starts acting on her thoughts and becomes a better person who does what she believes in instead of just talking.
Abed Nadir
Abed is suggested to be someone who most likely has autism spectrum disorder and can communicate with others through pop culture references. Throughout the series, he grows and can have more than surface-level friendships and connect with people emotionally.
Troy Barnes
Troy Barnes was a high schooler football who injured himself. He goes into community college expecting to be the most popular, but instead, he becomes friends with Abed, who is a nerd, and learns to accept himself for his other interests.
Shirley Bennet
Shirley is a hardworking single mother who makes being Christian a huge part of her personality and is sometimes intolerant. Throughout the series, she learns to be tolerant to those who go against her set of beliefs and also acts as a mother figure to the study group.
Annie Edison
Annie was a stuck-up overachiever who had to drop out of school because of drug addiction. In community college, she is sometimes forced to let go of her desire to be the best, and she learns to relax and enjoy life and, at the same time, be independent.
Pierce Hawthorne
Pierce is a rich older man who is racist, sexist, and insensitive, but being with his new friend forces him into life experiences that change him for the better and make him a more tolerable person.
Ben Chang
Ben Chang was initially a side character, but Ken Jeong made him iconic enough to become a permanent one. He is an insane person who is completely irrational, and he doesn’t experience much growth during the series, but he is also a huge part of its essence.
